Gateshead Council

The first power plant in North East England to provide low-cost, low-carbon energy directly to local customers

Gateshead Council has created a ‘district energy network’ to supply the town centre and Gateshead Quays area. The new low carbon energy centre will produce both heat and power which they will be able to sell directly to customers using an underground network of heat pipes and high voltage ‘private-wire’ electricity cables to be funded and owned by the Council.

Rennyco were subcontracted through Balfour Beatty to supply and install, high security perimeter fencing to the site which not only would protect the site, but compliment the strong design cues from the purple louvres and the curvature of the building.

Betafence Securifor® Super 6 weld mesh panel fence, with a matching 2 leaf swing gate, was chosen for the project because of it’s high level of security which incorporates 6mm vertical wires to give maximum resistance to attacks.

At 2.40m high the 358 Super 6 Mesh was installed onto 2.5m baseplated posts which were set at predetermined centres to reflect the curve of the building.

The customer then block paved over the baseplated post to achieve the desired finish.
